Low Boy or High Boy?
I get asked occasionally what type sprayer stand do I prefer, low boy or high boy. If you did not know, most larger sprayers have that option. A high boy is a sprayer mounted on a high stand that tilts back and a straight stainless steel intake tube enters your paint when tilted back forward.
A low boy is a sprayer mounted on a low stand that has a flexible robber hose that enters your paint without having to move or tilt back the sprayer or the stand. What do I prefer? I prefer the low boy option as I feel you get the ease and cleanliness of moving your intake tube from water to paint or paint to paint. For me the low boy is easier to lift to put in our vehicles. With a low boy you can move the intake tube from container to container a lot faster.
Why choose a high boy? A high boy typically has a stainless steal straight intake tube that will last the life of the sprayer. A low boys rubber hose will last only approximately 7 years before it needs to be replaced. The straight tube of a high boy also does not have the bend or trap at the bottom like the u shaped hose that accumulates paint residue over time. This residue eventually releases causing priming issues.
With that said, I simply like being able to move my intake tube quickly without dripping or spilling paint. The choice is yours next time you buy a sprayer. Check out one of my favorite high boy paint sprayers, the TriTech T7.
